The Maroons form a special community in Jamaica. Known as freedom fighters, centuries ago they maintained their freedom as Africans in the face of slavery. Today they live in special towns in Jamaica and maintain the legacy and traditions of their forebears. This is a must do tour for persons interested in a peek into a unique Jamaican way of life.
We pick up at 10 am and head to Portland for the Maroon experience at Charles Town. There we enjoy a guided tour the community-built museum, learning about their history as well the Maroon drumming and dancing traditions (you are taught the dance moves so get ready to shake a leg!). We often visit a river that flows through the community and it is usually enough to wade through but not quite high enough for a swim. We have a bit to eat in Portland and then we return to Kingston, arriving back at approx 330 pm.
For the group tour the cost is USD150 each and this includes transportation, tour guide, and entry fees to the Maroon tour. For the $150 we require a minimum of 2. If you have 4 and more the cost can go down to $100 each. Please contact us for us to apply the best possible price.
